Madison CI Discharge Paths
Madison Correctional Institution is an FDC state prison, not the county jail. A person can leave the institution because the state sentence ends, because an authorized release program begins, or because FDC transfers the person to another state unit. Only the first two categories represent leaving prison custody. An internal move, including one involving Madison Work Camp, keeps the person within the FDC system.
After a community release, the person may have no further state supervision, or may appear in the supervised-population database under parole, conditional release, probation, or another lawful category. “Parole” should not be used as a catchall. Modern Florida parole eligibility is limited, while conditional release is a separate statutory form of supervision. The public record must be read using the status and date labels FDC actually displays.
Confirm a Madison CI Release
Begin with the FDC inmate-population search. It accepts last name, first name, and DC number, and can include aliases. A DC number is the strongest identifier. FDC describes it as six characters, either all numbers or one letter followed by five numbers. Name searches work by prefix, so a short entry can return several similar surnames.
- Search by DC number when available. Otherwise use the smallest reliable name combination and consider aliases.
- Open the Offender Detail record. Compare name, aliases, physical description, photograph, offenses, sentence data, and institution history.
- Read each release-related label exactly. A tentative release date is a projection, while an actual release date records a completed event.
- Run the dedicated FDC release search for people already released or scheduled for release.
- Check the supervised-population search. Release from prison can be followed by active state supervision.
- When the public detail conflicts with a recent event, contact Central Records or submit an FDC public-records request.
The Madison County release search overview separates county, state, federal, and immigration records. For this facility, FDC remains the authority at each step.
Madison CI Discharge Records
The institution phone can route questions about current operations. A formal discharge record belongs with FDC Public Records and Central Records. A narrow request should identify the person by name and DC number, then seek the release date and type, institution of release, any supervision that followed, and the sentence-expiration or tentative-release data needed to understand the entry. Ask staff to preserve the exact field terminology.

Use FDC Public Records for the formal request path. The county Sheriff’s records custodian handles county bookings, not an FDC prison discharge. Likewise, the Madison Clerk can supply a state court judgment or later order, but the FDC record is the source for the agency’s custody status and release processing.
Madison CI Custody Profile
The official FDC institution page identifies Madison Correctional Institution as an adult male facility. It lists Madison Work Camp as a satellite and provides visitation hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern. Visitation details help identify the correct facility, but they do not establish whether a person has been discharged.
FDC also lists a Re-Entry Program among the institution’s betterment offerings. That source supports the existence of a program, but it does not establish a specific outcome for any participant. The relevant release proof remains the offender detail, release record, and any post-prison supervision entry.
Madison CI Offender Search Fields
The Corrections Offender Network separates current inmate, release, supervision, absconder, and escape information. Each database answers a different question. The current population record can show that the person remains imprisoned. The release search covers people already released or scheduled for release. The supervision search can show the next legal stage after prison.
| FDC source | Use for Madison CI | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Inmate population | Identity, institution, offense and sentence detail | A current result does not prove a future date will hold |
| Inmate release search | Historical or scheduled release information | Read projected and actual labels as written |
| Supervised population | State supervision after prison | Out of prison does not mean off supervision |
| FDC Public Records | Formal discharge documentation | Requires a focused request and identity match |
FDC says the inmate population is fully refreshed weekly, with release dates and location changes updated nightly. The dedicated release search updates nightly, and the supervision database is refreshed weekly with termination dates and location changes updated nightly. These schedules belong to FDC. They must not be applied to Madison County SmartWEB.
The official FDC search form displays the state search fields and its scope warning.
The warning matters for a recent Madison CI movement because location, status, and release data can change faster than the public display.
Madison CI Release Date Terms
Florida law distinguishes a maximum sentence expiration date from a tentative release date. The maximum date begins with the imposed term and lawful credit. A tentative release date is the projection FDC calculates through gain-time. Granted or restored gain-time can move that projection earlier, while forfeiture can move it later. New sentences and corrected computations can also change it.
For covered offenses committed on or after October 1, 1995, section 944.275 generally prevents gain-time from causing release before 85 percent of the imposed sentence has been served, with court-awarded credit for physical confinement counted. That is a floor, not a promise of release at 85 percent. Mandatory terms, gain-time eligibility, disciplinary action, sentence structure, detainers, and court orders can produce a later date.
An actual release date is historical. Even then, it should be paired with the status and supervision record to learn whether the person completed all FDC control or moved into community supervision. Do not calculate a Madison CI date by multiplying a sentence by a simple percentage.
- Tentative release date
- FDC’s projected date based on the lawful sentence computation and gain-time.
- Maximum sentence expiration
- The outside term-of-years date after lawful credit and sentence rules are applied.
- Conditional release
- A distinct statutory form of post-prison supervision for qualifying cases.
- Discharge
- The end of the applicable custody or supervision obligation shown by the responsible agency.
Is Madison Work Camp Open?
FDC’s current Madison CI page lists Madison Work Camp as the institution’s satellite and lists the main institution capacity at 1,054. A 2021 PREA audit reported the work camp closed at the time of that audit. Those statements come from different times. The older audit does not prove permanent closure, and the current satellite listing does not verify a separate public contact block or day-to-day operation.
The accurate description is narrow: Madison Work Camp is a currently listed FDC satellite whose separate operating status and contact should be confirmed with Madison CI or FDC. Do not use an address or telephone number inferred from an old directory. If an offender record shows movement between the camp and the main institution, treat that movement as an internal FDC transfer unless the state record separately shows release.
This status conflict affects routing, not release authority. The statewide FDC record remains the correct source whether the person was assigned to the main institution or its satellite. Central Records is the fallback when a recent move and the public location do not match.
Note: A current satellite listing and an older closure report can both be accurate for their publication dates.
Madison CI Transfer Versus Release
A location change within FDC is not a prison discharge. The person can move to another institution, a satellite, a reception center, or another state placement while the sentence continues. The offender detail may update the location after the actual transport, and FDC warns that public information can change quickly. A vanished Madison CI location therefore requires another state search, not a county jail query.
A true community release should be supported by an FDC release date or status and may lead to a supervised-population record. If another agency’s detainer takes effect, physical custody can continue outside the institution. Ask the formal record to identify release type, institution of release, and any custody or supervision that followed. Those fields answer more than the last institution name alone.
Note: Madison County Jail records and SmartWEB do not certify any stage of an FDC state-prison discharge.
